Dive Season Update

It may feel very Autumnal out there, and no sign of any Indian summer. On a positive note though, the water temp. in Kilmackillogue was 15 degrees yesterday…..not bad at all. Visibility has been effected nationwide with the wind and rain over the past few weeks but seems to be returning to acceptable levels now, 4-6 mtrs. As a little reminder of what Kenmare Bay has to offer from a diving perspective I have put together a little video.

Courses being run over the rest of September and early October are “PADI Open Water Diver Course” The “PADI Advanced Diver Course Oct 4th and 5th ( night dive on the 4th which is open to divers not on the course and the ” Wreck diver Specialty course” .

If you have hung up your dive gear till next season already then now is a good time to get your Apex regulator serviced by Kenmare Bay Diving or to send us your dry suit to change those leaky seals, boots etc.

Bull Rock Dive Trip

Finally, the weather looks predictable enough to plan a two tank trip to the Bull Rock and the Cow. The boat will be leaving at 8am sharp next Tue morning, with a planned first dive at 9am on the 50m wall at the Cow rock. The second dive will be discussed on board, options are the arch of the Bull or the Cow amongst others.

We should be back to Kilmackillogue Harbour for around 1300, bring a packed lunch and there is sun cream and water on board

Ideally you would need to be an advanced open water diver, be dived up and have an SMB and reel for this type of dive, however if you are an experienced diver and need gear hire then we can discuss that when you ring to book.

Sun, Sea and Diving ( Finally ). Delighted to say that Kenmare Bay Diving has been very busy for the past 6 weeks and diving conditions are lovely.

The 3 hour beginner “try-a-dive” session has been running from the boat every day with some exceptional sightings of marine life, such as conger eels, pipefish and seals. Courses have been busy too, with twelve new Open Water divers certified over the past few weeks. Well done to all.

Conditions for diving in Kenmare Bay as of yesterday are surface temp. 17-18 degrees, temp below thermocline 14 degrees, visibility ranging from 10-18m depending on tide and location. The sun cream on board the boat is finally getting used now

Weekly Diving Update

Hi Folks, diving conditions have been varying quite a bit over the past two weeks with everything from gale force winds to flat calm sea’s. Under the surface has been a similar story with temps. ranging from 10 degrees to 17 and visibility ranging from 3m to 12m.

Cannon Ball Island Dive

Things have leveled off somewhat now and we have had some great dives over the past few days ( see a few u/w pics below ). The boat is going out with divers every day and it seems that July is going to be a big month for the PADI Open Water Diver Course. There are three courses running during the month, so if you know someone who would like to learn to learn to dive then there are a few places available on some of the courses.

Dive Season Update

So the winds finally abated and the dive boat went into the water last week. I had a nice afternoon doing sea trials and generally messing about on the water. Cleaning the dive centre was not so much fun.

Diving conditions are grand with cool waters at 12 degrees and visibility quite clear at 8m average. The sea should be warming up by approx. 1 degree each week for the next 5 weeks or so. So dust off the dive gear and get some early season dives in. It was great to see both regulars and new faces over the weekend and just to set an instructional challenge, I had a Russian try-a-diver who had no English at allllllll. Always good fun.

The Dive Season Commeth

Hi Everyone, The boat will be going in the water in the next week to 10 days. However, if anyone is chomping at the bit to get diving over easter then please get in contact. I am happy to arrange some shore dives.

1st customer of 2011

Gavin and I had a great day of diving yesterday with the 1st dive at the cave near Ardgroom. A favorite shore dive of mine as one has to traverse two ladder styles and scramble over rocks in full kit to get to the entry point. The payoff is a lovely dive, and we saw one of the largest male cuckoo wrasse I have ever seen, a free swimming conger eel, mating spider crabs and more. Depth 25mtrs, temp 10 degrees and visibility averaged at about 6m.

After a toasted sandwich in Kilmackilogue, our 2nd dive took us the full way around the small island at the Point, Kilmack. max depth was 12 mtrs and it was great to see so many Moon Jellyfish (an apparent sign of a good summer).

Dive School Regulator for Sale

Hi Everyone, As most of you know I replace the school regulators every 12-18 months and sell off the old ones. Usually this is done during the season with people putting their name down for a reg a few months before it is available. I have just finished servicing the last one left from last year but am unable to contact the person who had there name down for it. So it is up for grabs.

1st stage stripped

It consists of a 300bar DIN Apeks ATX40, dry environmentally sealed 1st stage. Apeks ATX 40 primary 2nd stage and octopus. A BCD low Pressure Hose and a single High Pressure gauge.

The Regulator has been completely stripped by an Apeks certified technician, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath of hydrocarbon cleaner, had genuine Apeks service kits fitted and re-assembled and calibrated.

As well as the above there has been a new duo-flex silicone mouthpiece fitted to the primary 2nd stage and the High Pressure hose was replaced. This regulator comes with a service certificate which states next service is due in Feb 2012 .

Cost € 295 euro ( plus € 15 euro for courier, if not collecting )

If any of you need a little reminder of what The Kenmare Area has to offer in the way of scenery, activities etc. Just have a look at this short video.

Well done to Nick and Patrick on an excellent production.

From a diving info perspective, the boat will be in the water for easter this year. So Kenmare Bay Diving will officially be open for business a week earlier than usual.
